goodwill between the nations, and that if only the common peoples of the world
could meet one another at football or cricket, they would have no inclination to

                　　【讲解】句中作者介绍了别人的两种观点，其一sport creates goodwill between the nations，其二if only
the common peoples of the would could meet one another at football or cricket,
they would have no inclination to meet on the battlefield。amazed意为“惊愕，惊诧(very
surprised)”，此词一出，作者的态度即非常明确：反对上述两种观点。该句型是写驳论文的必备句型，其功能有二：介绍别人的观点;表达作者的反对意见。
