　　举办奥运会是我国人民百年企盼，把北京奥运会办成一届有特色、高水平的奥运会是我国政府和人民的共同愿望和坚定决心。今天，我们期盼已久的奥运圣火终于来到了北京，来到了爱好和平，珍视友谊，发展合作的中国人民中间，我们将把这象征着奥林匹克和平、友谊、进步宗旨的圣火传递到五大洲千百万人民的手中，传递到13亿中国人民的手中。
　　To host the Olympic Games is a long-cherished dream of the Chinese people. It is the shared aspiration and firm resolve of the Chinese government and people to stage a high standard Olympic Games with distinctive features in Beijing. Today, the much anticipated Olympic flame has arrived in Beijing and reached out to the peace-loving and friendly Chinese people. From here, we will pass the Olympic flame, a symbol of peace, friendship and progress, to the people across 5 continents and to the 1.3 billon Chinese people.

　　The Chinese government and people give top priority and full support to hosting the Olympic Games. Today, Mr. Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the President of the People’s Republic of China, has come to attend the ceremony. Please join me in extending a very warm welcome and high regards to him.

　　Mr. Xi Jinping, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice-President of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Zhou Yongkang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and Mr. Liu Qi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and President of the Beijing Organizing Committee of the Games of the 29th Olympiad and other party and state leaders have also come to today’s ceremony.

　　Our guests today from home and abroad also include the leading officials from the relevant departments and agencies of the CPC Central Committee and the State Counsel, leading officials from the Beijing Municipal government and BOCOG, as well as the representatives from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government and Macao SAR government. We also have with us today officials from the International Olympic Committee and the Hellenic Olympic Committee, and ambassadors of the countries where the torch relay will take place.

　　今天我们在这里怀着无比激动的心情，迎接奥运圣火，启动2008年奥运会火炬接力活动。奥运圣火是奥林匹克精神的象征，代表着希望与梦想，光明与欢乐，友谊与和平。现在奥运圣火带着伟大的奥林匹克精神已经来到了中华大地，熊熊燃烧的奥运圣火将传递和平友谊的心声，带给人们“同一个世界，同一个梦想”。在奥运火炬接力启动仪式开始的时候，我代表北京奥组委对希腊政府、希腊奥委会和希腊人民表示衷心地感谢。感谢你们对奥运圣火采集仪式的精心安排，感谢你们为成功组织传递活动所付出的心血和巨大努力。在2008年奥运会的整个筹办过程中，我们都得到了国际奥委会大力支持和帮助，在国际奥委会的精心指导下，使得各项筹办工作顺利推进，体现了奥林匹克的宗旨，弘扬了奥林匹克精神，普及了奥林匹克知识，推动了奥林匹克运动。在这里，我代表北京奥组委对国际奥委会表示忠心的感谢。
　　Honorable President Hu Jintao, distinguished guests, friends and comrades,
　　Today we have gathered here with much anticipation and excitement to herald the arrival of the Olympic flame and launch the torch relay for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The sacred Olympic flame is the symbol of the Olympic spirit. It embodies hope and dream, light and joy, and friendship and peace. Now the Olympic flame has brought the noble Olympic spirit to China. The burning Olympic flame will spread the massage of peace and friendship and collect all people on the “One World, One Dream”. As the outset of this ceremony today, I wish to extend on behalf of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the 29th Olympiad our heartfelt thanks to the Greek government, the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the Greek people. I want to thank you for your thoughtful arrangement for the Olympic flame lighting ceremony and your tremendous efforts in organizing of the torch relay event. Throughout the preparations for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, we have also enjoyed full support and assistance of the International Olympic Committee. Under its meticulous guidance all our preparatory work has reflected the Olympic purposes and principles, carried forward the Olympic spirit, disseminated the Olympic knowledge and advanced the Olympic movement. So here let me take this opportunity to extend our sincere thanks to the International Olympic Committee.
　　为期130天的和谐之旅将跨越五大洲，并在中国境内各个省、市、区传递，还将抵达世界最高峰珠穆朗玛峰，火炬将要经过的境内外各个城市，都做了大量的准备工作，为火炬接力活动的顺利进行奠定了坚实的基础。在此，我代表北京奥组委对各传递城市所付出的努力表示衷心的感谢。
　　The journey of harmony which will last 130 days will pass through 5 continents and all the province level localities on China’s mainland. It will also travel to Mt. Jolmo Lungma, the world’s highest peak. All cities of the torch relay both on and outside China’s mainland have made full preparations and laid a solid foundation for the smooth conduct of the torch relay. Here I would like to extend, on behalf of BOCOG, our heartfelt thanks to all the torch relay cities for the efforts they have made.
　　我们相信，在各传递城市和有关方面的共同努力下，一定能够圆满完成这一奥运史上传递路线最长，范围最广泛，参与人数最多的火炬接力活动，把奥林匹克理想和精神传递给神州大地的中华儿女，把中国人民的友谊和美好祝福传递给全世界人民。
　　We believe that with the joined efforts of the torch relay cities and all the parties concerned, the Beijing 2008 Olympic torch relay, the longest and the most inclusive relay involving the largest number of people in the Olympic history will achieve full success. It will spread the Olympic vision and spirit to all the Chinese people and send the friendship and good wishes of the Chinese people to people around the world.
　　奥运圣火进入中国，标志着2008年北京奥运会正式拉开了序幕。现在距离奥运会开幕还有130天，我们一定要在党中央国务院的领导下，紧紧围绕举办一届有特色、高水平的奥运会的目标，深入贯彻落实科学发展观，全面落实绿色奥运、科技奥运、人文奥运三大理念，全力以赴做好各项筹备工作，以最大的热情，尽最大的努力，确保2008年北京奥运会成功，让这届奥运会成为增进中国人民同世界各国人民相互了解和友好合作的盛会。祝愿奥运火炬接力活动圆满成功！
　　The arrival of the Olympic flame in China marks the official prelude to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. There are 130 days to go before the Beijing Olympic Games will open. Under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the State Counsel and with the goal of staging a high level Olympic Games with distinctive features in mind, we need to fully apply the Scientific Outlook on Development, put into practice the 3 Major Ideas of Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People’s Olympics, make full preparations and work hard with every enthusiasm to ensure the excellence of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and make it a grand event which promotes great mutual understanding and friendly cooperation between the Chinese people and people around the world. I wish the Olympic torch relay full success!

　　I now invite Chairman Verbruggen of the 29th Olympiad Coordination Commission to address the ceremony on behalf of the President of the International Olympic Committee, Mr. Rogge.

　　The Olympic flame has arrived in Beijing, announcing that the first ever Olympic Games in China will soon begin.
　　奥林匹克圣火已经来到北京，这宣告有史以来首次在中国举办的奥运会即将拉开帷幕。
　　The combination of the Olympic flame and torch is one of the most well-known and strongest symbols of the Olympic movement, heralding not just the arrival of the Games but also spreading a message of peace or "Ekecheiria", as the Greeks call it, to the world.
　　奥林匹克圣火与火炬的汇合是奥林匹克运动最著名和最有力的标志，它不仅向世人宣告奥运会的到来，更向世界发出和平，或者是被希腊人称之为“Ekecheiria”的信息。
　　From today, the torch will carry the flame across the globe, creating anticipation and excitement for the Beijing Games wherever the relay passes.
　　从今天开始，这火炬将承载着圣火传遍全球，无论它传递到哪里，都将播撒对北京奥运会的期盼和兴奋。
　　Crossing five continents, 21 cities around the globe, and more than 113 cities and prefectures on mainland China, wherever it passes the Olympic torch relay will cause everyone, whatever their nationality, culture or belief, to pause for a few moments to reflect on its message of peace and the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.
　　奥运火炬将跨越五洲，抵达地球上21个城市，传遍中国境内113个城市和省区，无论它经过哪里，无论是哪个民族、文化或信仰的人们，都会为此停下脚步，感受奥运火炬承载的和平讯息，领悟进取、友谊和尊重的奥林匹克信念。
　　All along the relay route people will be touched by the magic of the Olympic Games and what it represents. Indeed, many people, especially young people, will find that the Olympic torch relay ignites a passion and inspires them to participate in sport, to give their very best in all they do, and emulate their heroes.
　　火炬传递到哪里，哪里的人们就会感受到奥林匹克运动的魅力和伟大。奥林匹克火炬的传递将点燃千千万万人，特别是年轻人的激情，激励着他们投身体育，奋勇拼搏，超越前人。
　　It is the torch's ability to touch us that allows it to reach out to the world, beyond the host city, to bring the Olympic values closer to society and call the people of the world to the Olympic Games.
　　就是这火炬的巨大感召力使它能够走出主办城市，传遍世界，让奥林匹克的价值深入人心，召唤五湖四海的人民欢聚奥运盛会。
　　I am certain that the Games themselves, will not only be a moment of sporting excellence, but also an opportunity for the people of China and the world to learn, discover and respect each other.

　　I would also like to thank our Chinese friends from the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee, and in particular its president Mr. Liu Qi, for their strong and continuous focus on making the Beijing Games a unique and exceptional celebration of humanity.

　　The modern Olympic Games are a grand event of peace and friendship for people around the world. The century old dream of the Chinese nation to host the Olympic Games has been turned into a reality. To stage a high level Olympic Games with distinctive features is the shared aspiration of all Chinese people. The Chinese government and people warmly welcome the athletes and friends from all countries and regions to Beijing for the grand Olympic event. We will join our friends to vigorously carry forward the Olympic spirit, enhance the mutual understanding and friendship among all peoples of the world and work untiringly for the building of a harmonious world, of enduring peace and common prosperity.

　　Today, the sacred Olympic flame, a symbol of light, unity, peace and friendship has traveled from the historic grounds of Olympia in Athens to the Tiananmen Square in Beijing. It has brought with it the friendship of the Greek people towards the Chinese people. The best wishes of people of the world for a better future and the vision of the modern Olympic movement that is peace, friendship and progress.

　　Starting from here, the torch relay of the Beijing Olympic Games will pass across vast expanses of land and oceans, connect the hearts and minds of people on five continents and spread the “One World, One Dream” to every corner of the earth.
　　北京奥运会的火炬将在我国31个省、自治区、直辖市的113个城市中传递，以最广泛，最直接，最生动的形式在13亿中国人民中传播奥林匹克理想，弘扬奥林匹克精神，这将有力地激发全国各族人民的奥运热情，在全社会形成空前热烈的奥运氛围，向世界展示我国人民期盼奥运、参与奥运、奉献奥运的精神面貌。这将进一步凝聚起全体人民的力量，为实现举办一届有特色、高水平奥运会的目标，为促进国家发展，社会进步和人民幸福，做出新的，更大的贡献。
　　The Beijing Olympic torch relay will cross 113 cities in 31 Chinese province-level localities and spread the Olympic concept and carry forward the Olympic spirit among the 1.3 billion Chinese people in its most extensive, direct and lively way. It will release the passion of all the Chinese people for the Olympic Games, create an enthusiastic and vibrant atmosphere in the whole society and show his, to the rest of the world, the commitment of the Chinese people to welcoming, participating in and contributing their share to the Olympic Games. The torch relay will pull together the strength of the whole nation in making every effort to stage a unique and well-run Olympic Games and promote national development social progress and people’s well-being.

　　Comrades and friends, in 130 days, the Olympic flame will be lit up at the main stadium of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will hold its grand opening ceremony. The Chinese government and people will give continued full support to hosting the games and welcome friends from all countries and regions with gracious hospitality.
　　我们期盼着13亿中国人民和全世界人民一道在熊熊燃烧的奥运圣火下，共享奥运会的激情和荣耀，携手共建更加和谐、幸福、美好的明天！谢谢！
　　We hope that the 1.3 billion Chinese people and people of the rest of the world will work together under the witness of the burning Olympic flame, share the Olympic passion and glory and build a more harmonious and a better future.
