hides a very sinister secret.
Allison and Nick are sitting in the lounge after the landlord just paid
them a visit…
Allison: I can’t believe that the landlord is putting up the rent again! I
couldn’t really afford the original rent in the first place! What am I gonna
do?
Nick: You’re always going on about money. If you can’t afford the rent, why
don"t you move out?
Allison: Coz it is really near to work. You know that I dance at ‘Equinox’
disco! It is just around the corner.
Nick: Well what are we gonna do? As a journalist I’ve found out that Houhai
has become more and more popular as a bar destination. I thought something like
this would happen! What can we do about it?
Allison: I know. Why don"t we have a group meeting tonight after everyone
is back from work to discuss it?
          Nick: Sure.

          Nick: 好。
To go on about (something)
Eg. He really loves sport! He always goes on about soccer and
basketball!
Later that evening, a group discussion was held.
Melissa: God it’s hot in here.
Allison: You’re always complaining how hot it is! You shouldn’t wear such
big clothes then! Why don"t you go and change into a T-shirt or something.
Melissa: No, actually I’m ok now. As for the flat we could just rent out
the spare bedroom. What do you guys think?
Yummy: That is a really good idea. I think that it solves the money
problem.
Kurt: I agree. It makes sense as otherwise it is just wasted space.
Nick: I hope we get a guy! We need a balance in the house, as there are too
many girls!
Allison: Hey! Well I hope it is a girl as girls are better than boys!
Nick: Don"t get me started! But whatever, I think that we should put an ad
for a new roommate in the local paper。
          Melissa:
Don"t get me started (on something) 别跟我提这个!(不然我就住不了嘴了)
A: I hear you didn’t do too well on your last test.
B: Don’t get me started on that! I lost all my notes the night before the
exam!
          FLATMATE NEEDED!
URGENT REQUEST FOR A FLATMATE TO HELP SHARE THE RENT.
SPACIOUS ROOM WITH BIG LIVING ROOM AND KITCHEN
24 HOUR HOT WATER AND SHOWER
SHARING WITH FIVE OTHER EASY GOING ROOMIES
RENT IS 1200 RMB A MONTH
MUST BE CLEAN AND TIDY, A NON-SMOKER AND GENERALLY EASY GOING. PREFERABLY A
MALE, BUT FEMALES ALSO CONSIDERED
          CALL ****** IF YOU’RE INTERESTED
Over the next few weeks, the gang met up with prospective roommates, but
none as good as Jason Harman. He was immediately liked by everyone as he is very
cool and the new manager of Equinox, Allison’s place of work. It was Allison who
told him about the spare bedroom.

Nick: So Jason, how about a nice big discount whenever we go to
Equinox?
Yummy: Hey! Stop being cheeky! You can’t ask Jason that!
Jason: No, its fine. Sure you can have a discount at the bar.
Nick: Wicked! You’re so cool Jason!
Allison: Although you’d better not give Yummy any discount coz we all know
that she can’t drink!
Kurt: Go easy on her! So Jason, do you have a girlfriend?
Jason: Used to, not anymore though.
          Melissa: Oh really? What happened?
Jason: Long story. I’ll tell you guys some other time. Right guys, I’m off
to bed. Gotta work tonight.
Jason
Jason.
Jason!
Jason!
          Jason:
To meet up with (someone)
Eg.So when are you going to meet up with her? Are you going on a date
together?
          Stop being cheeky!
Eg. Stop being cheeky! You can’t say that!
Jason says goodbye to everyone and then leaves the room.
Melissa: That seemed all a bit mysterious, don"t you think? Do you think he
was hiding something?
Nick: Nah! Are you sure that you aren’t just making a mountain out of a
molehill?
Yummy: No, I agree with Melissa, he did seem to go a little quiet when Nick
asked if he had a girlfriend.
Kurt: Allison, so what’s the dirt on Jason?
Allison: I don"t really know! He has just become the manager of Equinox and
I found out that he needed a place to live.
Yummy: I reckon that he has some dark secret and he isn’t telling us
something! I don"t know what it is, but I’m gonna try and find out…
          Nick:
To make a mountain out of a molehill
Stop crying about the fight you had with your boyfriend. You’re making a
mountain out of a molehill. It isn’t as bad as you are making out.
To dish the dirt on 散布流言蜚语
          如果用英文解释的话就是gossip in an unkind way,也就是说别人的坏话。
Eg. Journalists who dish the dirt about movie stars
