　　In Western tradition, an engagement ring is a ring worn by awoman
indicating her engagement to be married.Conventionally, the ring is presented as
a betrothal gift by aman to his prospective spouse while he proposes marriage
ordirectly after she accepts his marriage proposal. It represents aformal
agreement to future marriage.
        　　在西方的传统习俗中，订婚戒指一般是由女方佩戴用来显示其订婚待嫁的身份。一般来说，男方会在向女方求婚或者女方答应求婚后将戒指作为礼物在订婚仪式上送给女方。这个戒指代表正式的婚约。
