In simple terms,electronic commerce means the conducting of business communication and transactions over networks and through computers.As most restrictively defined,electronic commerce is the buying and selling of goods and services,and the transfer of funds,through degital communications.But electronic commerce also includesall inter-company and intra-company functions(such as marketing,finance,manufacturing,selling,and negotiation)that enable commerce and utilize E-Mail,Electronic Data Interchange(EDI),file transfer,fax,video conferencing,workflow or interaction with a remote computer ( including use of the World Wide Web ).Although it is a fledgling industry currently,yet with the development of computing technology and the further enlargement of cyberspace,inevitably it will be a “must” part of our everyday lives.
        　　2. 今年，我们大学的选修课增加了一门新的副修课，这门课叫“信息技术”，从艺术系到计算机工程系等11个不同的系都进行了参与。这门选修课可能涵盖的内容是无穷无尽的，因为需要探索的领域是如此之多，而今天的社会又是如此依赖于计算机和技术的新发展。如果你们学校没有类似的选修课，努力去开设一门是很有价值的。不仅你会从学到的知识中受益，你们学校的其他学生也会受益。
        　　这门选修课有四个主要目的。第一个目的是学习计算、通信和网络，或信息存储、检索的实用技能。第二是理解信息技术对社会群体的影响。第三是学习如何以想象的方式运用信息技术。第四是学习对公众有益的信息技术的运用。这四个目的不仅说明这门课程确实教给学生有价值的知识，而且表明这门课程可以补充任何主修课。
