Hong Kong Film Festival Opens
Stars from around Asia hit the red carpet on Sunday night for the opening of the Hong Kong International Film Festival, which kicked off with the latest big-screen adaptation of kung fu master Ip Man.
来自亚洲各地的明星周日晚间踏上香港国际电影节(Hong Kong International Film Festival)开幕式的红毯。开幕式当晚放映的是根据功夫大师叶问的经历改编的最新影片。
“Ip Man: The Final Fight” is the fifth movie to focus on the life of the famed martial artist in the past few years. Action star Donnie Yen first claimed the role in 2008 with “Ip Man” and a sequel two years later. Earlier this year, Tony Leung Chiu-wai starred in Wong Kar-wai’s “The Grandmaster.”
《叶问：终极一战》是过去几年来第五部聚焦这位知名武术家生平的电影。2008年动作巨星甄子丹首次在《叶问》一片中饰演这一角色，并在两年后出演续集。在今年早些时候上映的影片《一代宗师》中，梁朝伟饰演叶问，该片由王家卫执导。
Anthony Wong, who plays Ip Man in the newest version, led the cast on stage at Sunday’s premiere, proclaiming to an enthusiastic audience, “This is the real Ip Man.” The film takes place in Hong Kong in the 1950s, when Ip Man arrived from China and began teaching his wing chun form of kung fu to eager students. Director Herman Yau’s vivid look at bygone era takes a nostalgic look at Hong Kong through the eyes of the working classes as they struggled for better lives.

Also Sunday night, stars joined Michelle Yeoh for a private party to help celebrate the career of the Malaysian actress. On Monday night, Ms. Yeoh will be honored with the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award at a ceremony for the Asian Film Awards.
同样在周日晚上，多位明星参加了杨紫琼的私人派对，祝贺这位马来西亚女演员。周一晚上，杨紫琼在亚洲电影大奖(Asian Film Awards)的颁奖礼上将被授予“卓越亚洲电影人”奖项。
“I am very pleased to have the chance to see so many film professionals and old friends,” Ms. Yeoh said. “I believe that, together, our vivacity and creativity will further raise the international profile of Asian cinema.”

Ms. Yeoh’s career stretches from Hong Kong to Hollywood and covers three decades. She has starred in such films as the Academy Award-winning “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “Tai Chi Master” with Jet Li, the James Bond movie “Tomorrow Never Dies,” and “The Lady,” in which she played Burmese democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Stars helping Ms. Yeoh celebrate on Sunday night included Japanese actress Makiko Watanabe, Philippine actor Eddie Garcia, Hong Kong actor Kam Kwok-leung, “Lost in Thailand” director-actor Xu Zheng and Korean actress Cho Min-soo.
