Horsemeat-Tainted Lasagna Hard to Swallow in Hong Kong
In a city where residents are used to eating chicken feet and snake soup, you might not think that a side of lasagna mixed with horsemeat would raise any alarms.
在市民惯于吃鸡爪和蛇汤的城市，你可能认为混进了马肉的千层面并没有什么大不了。
But as the United Kingdom's horsemeat scandal spreads to Hong Kong, prompting a recall of lasagna at one of the city's two biggest supermarket chains, some are crying foul.
但随着英国马肉风波扩散至香港，让香港两大超市连锁店之一召回千层面，一些人开始提出不同意见。
'This news is hard to accept…Hong Kong people are real horse fans, and every weekend will go to the Happy Valley horse races,' the pro-Beijing Ta Kong Pao newspaper said in a weekend editorial, citing one of the city's two racecourses where residents flock to gamble. 'Hong Kong people have a feeling of warmth and affection for horses.' During a recent race timed to coincide with the Lunar New Year, turnout was nearly 120,000 people and turnover some $197 million─this in a city of 7 million people.
《大公报》在周末的一篇社论中说：这真是一个相当难以接受的消息。不少港人都是“爱马仕”，每逢周末都要“跑马仔”。文章指的是香港市民前往赌马的两个赛马场之一跑马地(Happy Valley)。社论说，港人对马匹有一定的喜好与感情。在最近一次于春节期间举行的赛马中，有近12万人参加，赛马收入约1.97亿美元。相比下，香港人口为700万。
Park & Shop, which was asked last week by the city's Centre for Food Safety to remove a stock of lasagna found to contain some horse DNA from its shelves, said the product─made in Luxembourg by food giant Findus and imported from the U.K.─was no longer being sold.
香港食物安全中心(Centre for Food Safety)上周要求百佳超级市场(Park & Shop)将一批被检测出含有马肉DNA的千层面下架。百佳说，该产品已不再销售。该产品由食品巨头Findus在卢森堡生产，进口自英国。
'Only some of our stores sold the product, and if customers bought it they can be refunded with receipts,' said a Park & Shop spokesman. Park & Shop, which has more than 280 stores in Hong Kong and Macau and is owned by local billionaire Li Ka-shing, said it wasn't aware of any other products that were affected.
百佳发言人说，公司旗下只有部分商店出售该产品，如果顾客购买了此产品，可以凭收据退款。该公司为香港亿万富豪李嘉诚所有，在香港和澳门有280家商店。百佳说，目前还不知晓有其他任何产品受到影响。
A spokesman for the Centre for Food Safety said the government wasn't aware of other contaminated products. It advised consumers not to eat the lasagna, which had been marketed as a medley of beef Bolognese, béchamel sauce and cheddar sauce. While horse meat itself isn't dangerous─and has been used as a substitute in Japan for tuna and is seen as a delicacy in France─the meat in the lasagna might not have undergone tests for veterinary drugs, the center said.
