There have been some recent articles about how the language of texting is
damaging the English Language. Whether you agree or not with this view, the
language of texting is here to stay. Most of us live through our smartphones and
I have to say that even I, an English Language Trainer, use text language when
sending SMSs.
I am in awe of young people today who can send texts in seconds. Of course,
they have mastered the language of texting and I really need to learn from them.
As an English Language Trainer, I cannot escape this reality so instead of
fighting it, I thought that I’d dedicate this article to showing English
Language Learners how to text in English.

Let’s look at a text conversation:
A: Hi, RUOK? WOT U up 2?
B: With BF. U?
A: 0. WAN2 meet L8R?
B: Sure. Where?
A: Call u L8R.
Can you work out what it means? This is a very simple conversation. There are far more complicated chats.
