　　The World Trade Organization has ruled that aircraft maker Boeing received
more than $5 billion in illegal subsidies from the U.S. government.
        　　The ruling by a WTO panel in Geneva Thursday is the latest in a six-year
dispute between the world's two largest airplane makers, U.S.-based Boeing and
the European company Airbus. A separate WTO panel condemned European government
support for Airbus last year.
        　　The ruling against Boeing says the EU had demonstrated that the U.S.
government provided Boeing with prohibited export subsidies. The Reuters news
agency reports the subsidies that were ruled illegal included research and
development payments from the U.S. space agency NASA to Boeing.
