　　The army chief for Ivory Coast's defiant leader, Laurent Gbagbo, has called
for a cease-fire as Mr. Gbagbo takes cover in a bunker inside his Abidjan home.
General Philippe Mangou called for the cease-fire on Tuesday, as forces loyal to
internationally-recognized president Alassane Ouattara attacked Mr. Gbagbo's
last few strongholds.
        　　France's Foreign Minister, Alain Juppe, said he is "aware" of negotiations
with Mr. Gbagbo to arrange his departure. There are conflicting reports from
Gbagbo advisers about whether the incumbent president plans to surrender.
        　　Heavy gunfire continued in Abidjan Tuesday, six days after Mr. Ouattara's
forces entered the city as part of a rapid offensive to force Mr. Gbagbo from
power. Mr. Gbagbo refused to leave office after Mr. Ouattara was named the
winner of last November's presidential election.
