        　　An investigation conducted by the bureau Wednesday found that food-grade lyethat was used to clean pipes had leaked into and contaminated a production line at one of the company's plants on Monday, a bureau spokesman said early Thursday.
        　　上海市质监局发言人周四早上称，该局周三对此事做了调查，发现光明乳业某厂周一进行生产时，不慎将用来清洗管道的食用级碱水渗入生产线上的牛奶中。
        　　上面报道中的food-grade lye就是食用级碱水，食用碱常被用作食品curing agent（固化剂）和肉类tenderizer（嫩化剂）。食用碱不同于工业用碱，后者腐蚀性极强，一般用做drain opener（下水疏通剂）和detergent（清洁剂）。
        　　从2008年melamine milk（三聚氰胺奶）事件开始，国内几大乳企频频爆出过质量门。从去年年底的蒙牛牛奶aflatoxin（黄曲霉毒素，一种致癌物）超标，再到近期伊利baby formula（婴儿配方奶粉）和whey powder（乳清粉）含excessive mercury（汞超标），让国人对国产乳制品的信心急速下滑。
