做出惩罚是基于学校里不能食用垃圾食物的法律规定
A third-grader at Brazos Elementary was given a week’s detention for
possessing a Jolly Rancher。
一个小学三年级的孩子因为在学校吃Jolly Rancher糖果而受到一个星期时间的留校处罚。
The school’s principal and superintendent said they were simply complying
with a state law that limits junk food in schools。
校长和监督人说，做出这样的惩罚是基于学校里不能食用垃圾食物的法律规定。
But the girl’s parents say it’s a huge overreaction。
但是，可怜的小女孩的父母说，学校太过分了点。
“I think it’s stupid to give a kid a week’s worth of detention for a piece
of candy,” said Amber Brazda, the girl’s mother. "The whole thing was just
ridiculous to me."
女孩的妈妈说：“就因为一颗糖果，让孩子连续七天都要留校，这太没道理了。”
Leighann Adair, 10, was eating lunch Monday when a teacher confiscated the
candy. Her parents said she was in tears when she arrived home later that
afternoon and handed them the detention notice。

Adair那天在吃中饭的时候掏出了糖果，结果被老师没收了。当天下午她很晚才回家，并且眼泪汪汪地把留校惩罚通知拿给父母看。
According to the disciplinary referral, she would be separated from other
students during lunch and recess through Friday。
根据规定，她在惩罚期间不能和其他同学一起吃中饭，休息时间也要一个人呆着。
The girl’s mother said the incident has taught her daughter a lesson, but
not the one her teachers intended。
女孩的妈妈说这件事让自己的孩子得到了教训，但这个教训不是不能在学校吃糖果。
“I told her, ‘Leighann, unfortunately you’re learning very young that
life’s not fair,'” Brazda said。
“我告诉她说，这件事让你更早明白，生活是不公平的。” |
