About a quarter of Beijing’s registered residents were over 60 years old at
the end of 2017, according to a white paper published by the capital’s office
for senior citizens on Monday.
据北京市老年人办公室周一发布的白皮书显示，截至2017年底，北京市约四分之一的户籍居民年龄在60岁以上。
The number of elderly in Beijing rose from about 2.63 million in 2012 to
3.33 million at the end of 2017, accounting for 24.5 percent of the capital’s
registered population.
北京的老年人数量从2012年的约263万人增加到2017年底的333万人，占首都登记人口的24.5%。
Beijing sees an average increase of over 500 people at or above the age of
60 each day and a daily rise of about 120 people at or above the age of 80.
北京60岁以上人口平均每天增加500人以上，80岁以上人口每天增加120人左右。
The number of registered residents who are aged 60 or above in Beijing is
expected to reach 3.8 million by 2020, according to the office.
据该办公室称，预计到2020年，北京60岁或以上的登记居民人数将达到380万。
The white paper also showed that elderly people in the capital tend to live
a longer life. Old people at or above the age of 80 accounted for 3.3 percent of
the total population in Beijing in 2012, and the figure rose to 4.1 percent in
2017. The number of centenarians in Beijing also rose from 544 in 2012 to 833 in
2017.
白皮书还表明，首都的老年人往往寿命更长。
年龄在80岁以上的老年人占2012年北京总人口的3.3%，2017年这一数字上升至4.1%。北京的百岁老人人数也从2012年的544人增加到2017年的833人。
China’s population is aging rapidly. The number of people aged 60 or above
reached 241 million in China by the end of 2017, accounting for 17.3 percent of
the total population. The number is expected to peak at 487 million around 2050,
accounting for a third of the total population, according to the Office of the
National Working Commission on Aging.
中国的人口正在快速老龄化。 截至2017年底，中国60岁以上人口达到2.41亿，占总人口的17.3%。
