又到年底，各大词典统计的年度词汇相继出炉，世纪君之前为大家介绍了《柯林斯词典》的选择(戳这里回顾)，今天亮相的则是《韦氏词典》。
本周二，《韦氏词典》公布了2017年的年度词汇：Feminism(女权主义)。
Merriam-Webster dictionary on Tuesday announced its word of the year for
2017 is "feminism".
Feminism在词典中的解释为：“在政治、经济和社会中性别平等的理论”，以及“为女性权益组织的活动”。
The word is defined in Merriam-Webster as "the theory of the political,
economic, and social equality of the sexes" and as the "organized activity on
behalf of women's rights and interests."

据《韦氏词典》官网介绍，女权主义一词的搜索量比2016年增长了70%。由于在这一年中，有过数次相关的新闻和事件，所以搜索量出现了几次高峰。词汇搜索的普遍增长，也证明了很多人对这个词汇感兴趣;而搜索量的激增则能让人洞悉其背后的原因。
The word was a top lookup throughout the year, showing a 70% increase over
2016. It also saw several spikes in lookups that corresponded to various news
reports and events during the year. The general rise in lookups tells us that
many people are interested in this word; specific spikes give us insight into
some of the reasons why.
据新华网报道，这些事件包括年内多个“女权主义”倡议活动，如年初在世界多地举行的“女性大游行”。
The word spiked after the Women's March in Washington D.C., together with
sister marches across the United States and around the world on Jan. 21, one day
after U.S. President Donald Trump's inauguration.
还包括在社交媒体上以“我也是(#MeToo )”为标签控诉遭受性侵或性骚扰的热潮等。
And this fall, as the #MeToo movement took off -- and millions of women
began sharing their stories of sexual harassment and assault -- the word soared
again in the dictionary's online searches.
美国总统高级顾问凯莉安妮·康韦今年2月作出“不认为自己是女权主义者”的表态后，“女权主义”一词在韦氏词典在线网站上也被频繁搜索。
此外，一些今年上映的影视作品，如科幻美剧《使女的故事》和由女性导演帕蒂·詹金斯执导的超级英雄电影《神奇女侠》也引起了人们对“女权主义”一词的兴趣。 |
