        29. FORTNIGHT29.十四天
        Two weeks. This comes from an abbreviation of ‘fourteen nights’两周。“fourteen nights”的简写
        I’ve been really ill for the past fortnight, and still haven’t recovered.我病了两周,还未痊愈。
        30. GOBSMACKED30.目瞪口呆的
        This means amazed形容大吃一惊
        I can’t believe I passed that exam! I thought I was going to fail, I’m completely gobsmacked!我竟然通过了考试!原本以为要挂掉了,真让人难以置信!
        31. SPLASH OUT31.花了太多钱
        When you spend far too much money花了一大笔钱                              
        I wanted to give Sarah a special treat for her birthday, so I splashed out on a very romantic weekend away.我想为萨拉准备一份特别的生日礼物,于是砸了大笔钱筹备一个浪漫的周末。
        32. GRUB / NOSH32.食物
        Both these words mean food二者均指食物
        I’m going to get some grub for myself from the local takeaway. Do you want anything?我要在当地餐馆点些吃的,你想吃什么?
        33. BEE’S KNEES33.蜜蜂的膝盖
        Something or someone fabulous某事或某人令人难以置信
        I don’t like Harvey very much, he thinks he’s the bee’s knees!我不怎么喜欢哈维,他有点不靠谱!
        34. GUTTED34.非常疲惫的
        When someone is really upset or disappointed某人心烦意乱或失望
        I’m so gutted I failed my driving test, again!驾照考试又没过,烦死了!
        35. PEANUTS35.微不足道的钱
        When something is cheap, financially low某物超级便宜
        I hate my job. I have to work such long hours, and I get paid peanuts.我讨厌自己的工作。工作时间长,工资又那么低。
        36. HAGGLE36.讨价还价
        To argue over, and try to negotiate the price of something you want to buy争论,试图协商商品的价格。
        I managed to haggle the price of this shirt down by 25%!我设法把这件衬衫的价格砍了25%!
        37. JOLLY37.很,非常
        You might hear people use this in all sorts of ways, but basically it means ‘very’. So “jolly good” would mean ‘very good’跟Very一个意思,Jolly good其实就是“Very good”的意思
        Don’t worry,I will pay you back before the end of this month.
        -I should jolly well think so!
        别担心,月底前会还你的。
        -我真该这么想!
        38. THROW A SPANNER IN THE WORKS38.破坏
        This is an expression that means to wreck something破坏某物
        I managed to keep the surprise a secret, right up until the day before my sister’s birthday, and then he threw a spanner in the works by telling her!我原本打算在姐姐生日那天送出这份惊喜,没想到他却提前告诉了姐姐!
        39. KIP39.小憩
        A short sleep, a nap, a power nap, or a snooze.打盹,小睡。
        Why don’t you try and have a kip before everyone gets here? You won’t have time to rest later.你怎么不在大家来之前小睡一会呢?一会没时间休息了。
        40. WIND UP40.取笑/烦恼
        This has a couple of meanings. If something you do is a ‘wind up’ it means you are making fun of someone. However, if you are ‘wind up’ it means you are annoyed有多种含义。如果你做的事“wind-up”,也就是说你在取笑某人。如果你“wind-up”,说明你很烦。
        I was just winding her up for fun, but she took offence to it and got really angry!我只是为了好玩才逗她,没想到她生气了,真的生气了!
        41. MATE41.同伴
        This means friend, chum, pal, or buddy.朋友、密友、笔友、伙伴
        I’m going to the cinema with my mates tonight.今晚我和同伴一起去看电影。
        42. NOT MY CUP OF TEA42.非我杯茶
        This is a common saying which means that something is not to your liking.不喜欢某事或某物
        I don’t really like this sort of music. It’s just not my cup of tea.我不喜欢这类的音乐,这不是我的菜。
