        In Articles 1we looked at the 3 golden rules of articles:
        在《冠词1》我们谈了关于冠词的三个黄金守则。
        1  People’s jobs have a/an. He’s an architect.
        人们的职业前要带a/an。
        2  Singular countable nouns have an article. That’s the woman I met last week.
        单数可数名词要带冠词。
        3  Things in general –no article. Cats like mice.
        概括性的事物没有冠词。
       
        Here we look at some other rules for the use of articles.
        今天我们谈其他几个关于使用冠词的规则。
       
         
        Special places
        特殊的场合和地点
        ·  My son’s at university but my daughter still goes to school.
        ·  He was sent to prison for 10 years.
        ·  Now that winter’s here I find it difficult to get out of bed.
        ·  I go to work by bus but I go home on foot.
        In expressions with a number of places there is no article after a preposition.
        在表达地点的时候，介词后面是不跟冠词的。
        These places include：
        这些地点包括: to/at school, to/at university/college, to/in church, to/in/out of prison, to/in hospital, to/in/out of bed, to/at work, at home.
       
        NOTE: While we say ‘go to school’and ‘go to work’etc, the expression ‘go home’has neither ‘the’nor ‘to’.
        我们说go to school和go to work等等，go home是既没有the 也不带to的
       
         
        Transport
        交通
        ·  I go to work by bus but I go home on foot.
        ·  I hate travelling by train.
        Modes of transport (by bus, by train, by car, by plane, by bicycle) don’t have an article. Notice that on foot is different.
        交通方式不带冠词。
       
         
        Geography
        地理
        No article
        不带冠词
       
        –continents 洲(Africa, Asia etc.) countries 国家(France, Germany, Slovakia etc - but the Slovak Republic, the United States, the United Kingdom) towns & cities城镇和城市(Bratislava, London etc.) lakes 湖泊(Lake Victoria, Lake Balaton etc.)universities (Oxford University, Nitra University etc.)
        With ‘the’
        带the的
       
        –seas & oceans大海和海洋(the Atlantic, the Mediterranean etc.) mountain ranges 山群(the Himalayas, the Tatras) rivers河流(the Amazon, the Danube etc.)
       
         
        Other expressions
        其他表达
        ·  I don’t watch television very often but I listen to the radio all the time.
        ·  I’ve got a headache.
        ·  I’ve got a stomach-ache
        ·  I’ve got a cold.
        BUT
        ·  I’ve got ‘flu.
        ·  I’ve got earache.
        ·  I’ve got toothache.
        Other illnesses have no article.
        其他疾病不带冠词。
