But first, for the first time Tiger Woods has suggested his current injury problems may mean he won't play professional golf again. The 14-time major winner conceded he would never reach Jack Nicklaus's record of 18 major wins, and was downbeat when asked about his injury. He said there is nothing I can look forward to, nothing I can build towards, while Woods hasn't been able to start his rehabilitation work after two surgeries on his back earlier this year. Our golf correspondent Ian Carter says it's rare to hear the former world number one so downcast.
'Having covered all of the injuries that Tiger Woods has suffered in recent years, this is the bleakest picture that he's ever painted. When he's made public appearances before returning to the golf course, he was speaking because it's his tournament this week that's taking place in the Bahamas, it's the tournament that he promotes. Of course he's not playing in it, because he is going through this rehabilitation, or indeed not even going through that. That's the central message. There was a back injury that's to repair, nerve damage, and he just has to wait for it to heal. And it's clearly not done that so far." |
