　　报道中，由于全球油价攀升、航空公司之间相互打“价格战”，“芝加哥-上海” 每日直航的政策可以帮助美国航空公司保持有利的竞争地位，由此afloat可以解释为：free or out of difficulty, especially financial difficulty(顺利的，免受经济困难的)。举个例子：The firm couldn't keep the business afloat during the recession.(在经济衰退期间, 这家公司不能顺利维持业务。)
　　另外，afloat原意指在空中或海上“漂浮的状态”，如：The ship was listing badly but still kept afloat. (船倾侧得很厉害, 但却仍然漂浮不沉。)由此，afloat也可引申为“流传;散播;计划等尚未定案”，举个例子：There' s a story afloat that he' ll resign.( 有传闻说他要辞职。)
