　　在实际运用中，“亲笔签名”并不仅仅拘泥于“autograph”一词。有时，我们单用动词“sign”或名词“signature”也可以，例如：If Mr Bush had signed all the cards personally he would have needed to start in late summer. In fact, not all of the cards carry a print of the presidential signature .(如果布什要亲笔为所有的卡片签名，那么他从夏末就得开始动笔。事实上，并不是所有卡片上都有总统的签名。)
　　由上面的例句，我们还可推出，“sign”的分词形式“signed”可用做形容词“印有某人亲笔签名的书/专辑”，如：a signed Beatles album(披头士签名专辑)，a signed edition of Hitler's Mein Kampf(一本希特勒所著并印有他的亲笔签名的书《我的奋斗》)。
　　当然，因为“autograph”也可做动词，其相应分词形式“autographed”也可表示“印有亲笔签名的书/专辑”，如：an autographed Beatles album(披头士签名专辑)。
