Thirteen seconds was more than enough for Liu Xiang to cross 10 hurdles and grab an Olympic gold medal, but it took the Chinese hurdler two years to arrive at the political arena as he appeared on Wednesday, for the first time, at a meeting of the country's top advisory body.

Liu's debut at the annual session of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference , just two days before the end of the event, captured interests of reporters, who waited for an interview with the sports star at the entrance to the panel meeting room for advisors from the sports circle.
据报道，被任命为代表后的首次亮相政协会议之后，中国田径英雄刘翔表示，自己有政治理想。
– Chinese athletics hero Liu Xiang has admitted having political ambitions as he made his first appearance at a parliamentary body since being appointed a delegate.
据报道，刘翔表示：“作为一名政协会议的新代表，我希望自己能够提议、促成一些政策。很荣幸能够参与到政治活动中，履行我的责任。”
"As a new delegate to the CPPCC, I hope to be able to propose and contribute to policy. To participate in politics is an honourable responsibility," Liu said, according to the China News Service.
“能够为自己的国家和人民服务是我最高的荣誉。”
"It is the highest honour for me to make efforts to render service to my nation and people."
两会接待室表示，刘翔在美国接受肌腱损伤的治疗，因此他此前曾表示可能缺席今年两会。
Liu, who had been in the United States for tendon injury treatment, previously asked for absence from this year's session, according to the annual session's reception office.
此外，去年三月份的政协会议，刘翔因为在西班牙参加世界室内田径锦标赛而未能参加。
He was also absent from the advisory session last March, when he was in Spain to compete in the world indoor championship.
近期，有媒体指责刘翔及其他明星缺席大会，并质疑他们对政协会议的贡献。
Some media had in recent days criticised Liu and other celebrities for not showing up at the meeting and questioned their commitment to the advisory body.
据了解，在全国约2235名政协委员中，25岁的刘翔是最年轻的。
Liu, 25, is one of the youngest among the 2,235 members of the nation's top political advisory body.
刘翔于3月8日回国，在故乡上海停留一天后于周二（10号）晚上抵达北京。
He returned to China on March 8 and spent one day in his hometown Shanghai before coming to Beijing Tuesday evening.
据透露，刘翔于去年年底在美国接受足踝手术。会上，他还和其他代表们分享了手术后的恢复进展。
Liu briefed fellow delegates on his recovery from his ankle surgery that was performed late last year in the United States, the China News Service said.
刘说：“目前，我的伤势正在康复，恢复状况也很乐观。”
"At present my injury is healing and my recent recovery has been pretty smooth," Liu said.
本周回国后，刘表示自己已经将目标瞄准2012年伦敦奥运会。
After returning to China this week, Liu said he had set his sights on the 2012 London Olympics.
然而，他的教练表示，他不大可能在今年8月份的柏林世锦赛上重夺110米栏的冠军宝座。
But his coach said it was unlikely he would be able to defend his 110m hurdle crown at this August's world championships in Berlin.
