To help them make their choices, some restaurants would purchase their seafood from fishers who practiced sustainable fishing method, meaning that when obtaining their catch, they would choose a method with the lowest impact to the environment and the population of the catch. They only fished in designated areas and stayed below a quota. When restaurants used sustainable seafood in their menu, they added a sustainable seafood symbol next to the item on the menu. For customers who chose food with the sustainable seafood symbol, they would know they were supporting sustainable fishing practices.
