Time is up means there is no more time left. For what action is the time up? Who does the timeline affect? What work has been done?

It had only been a few days into the week and the editor suddenly asked for a meeting. Wolfe got bad feeling. He figured he should have something to bring to the meeting, even incomplete articles. Usually, his boss was not an unreasonable person giving unrealistic deadlines. But who would know, perhaps the boss' boss was putting on the pressure. As Wolfe's mind wandered, his fingers were still speedily gliding on the computer keyboard, stringing words together. Soon enough, his cell phone vibrated. He alarm he set earlier reminded him that his time was up.
