To give compliments means to express praise and admiration. What is the compliment? Who is giving the compliment? Who is receiving it? Where does the action take place?

范例1：
It was fun moving through the crowd without people talking to him or grabbing onto him. On his way towards the food tables, he even managed to pick up gossip on himself, like people talking about his looks and career, and people wondering about his personal life. Compliments really, but even if people were to say negative things about him, he could care less. He already had enough pressure in his line of work, he did not have time to care what some nobody had to say about him. As long as he knew who he was, that was all that mattered.
