    My daughter, Jane, never [U]dreamed of[/U] [U]receiving[/U] a letter [U]from[/U] a girl of her own age in Holland. Last year, we [U]were travelling across[/U] the Channel and Jane [U]put [/U]a piece of paper with her name and address on it [U]into[/U] a bottle. She [U]threw[/U] the bottle [U]into[/U] the sea. She never [U]thought of[/U] it again, but ten months later, she received a letter from a girl in Holland. Both girls [U]write to[/U] each other regularly now. However, they have decided to use the post office. Letters will cost a little more, but they will certainly travel faster.

此句中的Jane是My daughter的同位语
dream of: 梦想...，幻想...（后接v.ing）
dream on： 继续做梦, 痴心妄想(做你的梦去吧!别痴心妄想了!)
dream boat : 梦中情人, 梦寐以求的(物, 人)
a girl of her own age:和她同龄的女孩
Holland:the Netherlands(formal)
Dutch（adj.）:Go Dutch.(各人付自己的帐,AA制)
2.Last year, we were travelling across the Channel and Jane put a piece of paper with her name and address on it into a bottle.
在写到过去的事情时，一般过去时和过去进行时可以连用。过去进行时往往用来表示背景，一般过去时表示发生的动作。
the Channel:the English Channel英吉利海峡(英法之间)
with her name and address on it:介词短语来修饰a piece of paper
3.Both girls write to each other regularly now. 现在这两位姑娘定期通信了。
both用在名词前面时，of可有可无。
在both girls中，both为形容词；
在both of the…结构中，both为代词。each other指互相，一般作宾语。
3. Letters will cost a little more, but they will certainly travel faster .
cost:花费
[U]比较cost和spend[/U]
|_cost :什么东西花了谁多少钱
|_spend：人花多少钱
a little more:a litter(=a bit, 稍微)来修饰more
