Colbie Caillat出生成长于加州马里布，父亲Ken Caillat正是民谣搖滚奇乐团Fleetwood Mac写下辉煌销售成绩经典大作 《Rumours》、《Tusk》的幕后制作推手﹔博客的影响力，使本想改行的蔻比仅用一年时间便在乐坛绽放才华。
受父亲（Ken Caillat）影响，从小接受古典钢琴训练，19岁时学习吉他，第一堂课结束就用吉他写下第一首歌曲。可是她的作品被音乐发行商看作是“陈词滥调”。喜爱音乐，却没有任何途径，于是她决定搬到夏威夷，改行作摄影师。
2006年9月，蔻比在博客上 发表单曲《Bubbly〔阳光微笑〕》和《The Little Things〔小事情〕》。吉他伴奏加上她轻盈悦耳的嗓音，很快得到网人的偏爱及推崇。她的音乐打动了无数的听众，歌曲的点击量也打动了音乐发行商。她不必被重新包装，发行商们“什么都没做，蔻比就把一切都做好了”。一位总裁在听了她的清唱之后，说：“You had me at hello(你一开口就征服了我)”。
