        Dragonforce是这支乐队的英文名称，是典型的力量金属乐队。由香港籍英国吉他手李康敏（Herman Li）与吉他手（Sam Totman）在1999年成立，成立之初，乐队命名为Dragonheart，后因了解到另外一支力量金属乐队重名，所以改为Dragonforce，号称“The World’s Fastest Melodic Speed Power Metal”（意思为：世界上最快的力量金属），其中乐队创始成员兼团长，主音吉它手李敏康（Herman Li）来自中国香港，号称中国第一吉它手，享有“华裔吉他英雄”的美誉。乐队初始成员共有5人，分别来香港、英国、南非、法国、乌克兰，名副其实的多国部队。
        　　
        成立之初，乐队命名为Dragonheart，主唱ZP theart是通过广告加入的乐队。随后不久，鼓手Matej Setinc，贝斯手Steve Scott 和 键盘手Steve Williams加入了乐队。其中Totman和Li曾参与过Demoniac乐队，所以有过乐队排练的经验。一段时间后，Dragonforce以Dragonheart之命发行了一张Demo，并与Halford，Stratovarius 还有 headlined一起巡演。
        　　
        鼓手Matej Setinc在1999年离开了乐队去Slovenia上学，Didier Almouzni加入顶替了鼓手的位置。贝斯手Steve Scott与键盘手Steve Williams于2000年分别离开了乐队。Steve Williams之后帮助与Halford和Stratovarius巡演又再加入过乐队一次，并在2000年底离开。Steve Scott则加入了Shadowkeep，随后加入了Power Quest。
        　　
        2000年11月，贝斯手Diccon Harper加入乐队。在2001年2月键盘手Vadim Pruzhanov加入乐队后，Dragonforce聚齐了所需成员开始录制第一张专辑。贝斯手Diccon Harper在完成了第一张专辑Valley of the Damned后，因为需要手术，在2002年离开了乐队。
        他们最初于域名为MP3的网站发行的歌曲 Black Winter Night于短短数个月，便有超过50万次下载次数，稳据该网的重金属排名榜2年之长，兼且在头5名内维持了2年时间。
