X-Japan是日本著名的古典摇滚乐队。乐队成立于1982年，1989年成为日本最红的乐队，以独立厂牌的出身获得主流音乐的认同和辉煌。1997年4月因主唱TOSHI以音乐取向不同的理由退出，在无法找到后继主音的情况下，9月22日乐队被迫宣布解散，次年由于吉他手hide的意外离世，乐队的复活更捉摸不定。2007年，乐队的再结成被Yoshiki提了出来。2007年至2009年乐队在亚洲开展了巡演，并于2010年9月至10月进行了首次北美巡演，人气不减当年。乐队计划于2011年发行十四年来的首张录音室专辑。直至2010年，乐队共发行超过三千万张专辑、两百万张录像带。
X作为名字，是因X字母有着“无限的可能性”的意味。组成当初有着认为“有正式团名之前先使用假名”、“在比赛宣传册上一个字会更引人注意”这样的感觉。之后，进军世界时为了与美国同名乐队加以区别，在1992年8月HEATH入团的同时改名为X JAPAN。
