Laura Fygi1955年8月27日出生在荷兰首府阿姆斯特丹。父亲是飞利浦电器的技术人员，母亲是来自埃及的肚皮舞娘。Laura Fygi出生不久後，由於父亲工作之故，全家迁往乌拉圭。父亲在1960年初过世後，Laura Fygi和母亲回到荷兰家乡。当年她母亲因婚姻毅然放弃表演事业，所以当Laura Fygi表现出对歌唱、表演的兴趣後，母亲是第一个鼓励她的人，为她安排了歌唱、钢琴课。
20岁时罗拉被荷兰籍的制作人Peter van Asten和Richard Dubios发掘，邀她加入由多种不同国籍乐手组成的团体"Terra"。该团在发行两支不是很受欢迎的单曲後解散。而歌声充满灵性的Laura Fygi，则随著制作人埋首筹划未来演唱与录音的计划。
