这是一个很常用的词组，表示跟上信息更新的速度。这里爱德华对贝拉说keep up的意思是说就算你来这儿的原因很复杂，我也有兴趣洗耳恭听。

【19】背景知识：metaphase
metaphase是生物学的专有名词，是指细胞分裂的中期。这个段落里贝拉和爱德华的生物课上在做观察细胞分裂阶段的实验，出现了一组关于细胞分裂的专有名词，包括：
Mitosis细胞分裂；Preprophase早前期；Prophase前期；Prometaphase前中期；Metaphase中期；Anaphase中后期；Telophase后期。

在美国，棒球是一项十分受欢迎的运动，专业的联盟比赛叫做大联盟，也就是Major League Baseball；相对级别低一些的就是Minor league baseball了。

figure out有发现、决定的意思，也可以表示解决了问题，但显然在这边不是这么解释。figure sb. out在口语里面很常见，表示了解某人、理解某人，或者揣测某人的心理。
这边爱德华是对贝拉说：你实在让人捉摸不透。
