The Jack the Ripper murders are one of the most notorious murder cases in history, and with millions worldwide still fascinated by the killings, which shocked Victorian London, the BBC have engaged ambitious production to capture them in new series Ripper Street.
With filming now taking place on the drama, which stars former Spooks star McFadyen, Game of Thrones' Jerome Flynn and 'Twilight's' Myanna Buring, we've taken a look at the first photos coming out of the set in Dublin.
The eight part series also received a boost last month when the Beeb's American TV Network, BBC America, agreed to a co-production alongside production companies Tiger Aspect and Lookout Point.
The network evidently hope to turn Ripper Street into a ratings success like ITV's Whitechapel, which also focused in part on the ripper murders.
Filming has just started on the show, which will focus on the H Division of the Metropolitan police, who had to try to calm a panicked capital after the gruesome murders, as well as searching for the elusive culprit. As you can see below, the actors look resplendent in period costume, even if their iPhones do look a little out of place.
Simon Vaughan, the man who came up with the show's concept, said: "The hunt for Jack The Ripper was the first ever global media man hunt - and somehow still stirs a macabre fascination in the public more than 120 years later. This is an iconic subject and we are delighted to be producing this as a UK/US co-production allowing us to deliver major production values and make a very ambitious series."
The show is set to finish filming this summer and air in the autumn.

《开膛街》的故事将人们带回了1888年的伦敦东区，警局的H分部(H Division of the Metropolitan police)接到任务，负责平息开膛手杰克犯案后的恐慌气氛，并且要将这个难以捉摸的罪魁祸首缉拿归案。直到120年后的今天，这位恶名昭彰的连环杀人犯依旧有着令人闻风丧胆的影响力。
《开膛街》第1季将分为8集，于今夏完成拍摄，并有望于秋季播出。 |
