It should come as no real shocker that Glee was the big winner on Saturday for the 26th annual Television Critics Associations (TCA) Awards. This thanks in no small part to everyone's favorite tyrannical, tracksuit-wearing Cheerios coach, Sue Sylvester. Jane Lynch--who plays Sylvester--took home the award for individual achievement in comedy. I think this award is well-deserved for the woman who makes cheerleaders smell their own armpits and thinks Will Schuester can't be trusted because she pictures little birds laying sulfurous eggs in his curly hair. (Seriously. Sulfurous eggs. Look it up. It's gross.)
In addition to Lynch's award, the Emmy nominated series also won "program of the year" (the top honor of the awards show) and "outstanding new program." But the real winner, in my opinion, was Kristin Chenowith who plays April Rhodes--glee club sensation-turned-alcoholic. Awards Host Dax Shepard credited Chenowith with giving him swine flu; something he is incredibly proud of and hopes will pave his way to a Tony.
Thrilled as I was to see Glee take home three awards, I was equally ecstatic to see ABC's Modern Family win "best comedy," thus proving that quasi-dysfunctional suburbanites--and Ed O' Neil--are the next best thing to Lady Gaga Mashups and choreographed wheelchair routines.
