7. 简单却由于省略过多意思不明的一段对话，同时也很耐人寻味的父子对话。
Dad- I see things.
Son-Do you see things or do you hear things? Because don't always believe what you hear.
Dad- Have I ever?
Son- No.
Dad- So why would I now? I mean, besides, I haven't heard anything.
Son- What's to hear?
Dad- Nothing.
父亲-我明白一些事情。
儿子-你是看见还是听见那些事情？我这么问是因为要知道人不能仅相信所闻。
父亲-我相信过么（所闻）？
儿子-你没有过。
父亲-所以为什么我现在相信（那是因为我不仅听说了什么）？我的意思是说，除了我什么也没听说这件事之外，还有令我确信的原因。——注意，之所以父亲会解释besides后的一段话，是因为前一句的隐含意思是，我的确有证据，而在此情况下，该证据很可能是传闻，所以后边才解释说，除了我“什么也没听说”以外，我仍然确信。如果没有具体语境，该句的逻辑是不当的。
儿子-我将会听你说什么？（或者是，你要说什么）
父亲-什么都没有。
