【虎虎日记】3月17日圣帕特里克节的绿色情结

        虎虎来啦！3月17日就是爱尔兰的重要节日Saint Patrick's Day了。虎虎知道，在爱尔兰，它的影响力非同凡响。可是，这个节日是怎么来的呢？为什么这个节日对爱尔兰人来说那么重要？在这一天，人们又会怎么样度过这一天呢？带着这些问题，虎虎又再次出击，找到了美女外教Alison向她讨教（戳偶去Alison老师的主页瞅瞅>>）。哇！原来这个节日有那么多的意义，让我们一起去看看吧！
        What is St Patrick's Day?
        Saint Patrick's Day is a religious holiday celebrated on 17 March. It is named after Saint Patrick (c. AD 387–461), the most commonly recognised patron saints of Ireland. It originated as a Catholic holiday and became an official feast day in the early 17th century. It has gradually become more of a secular celebration of Irish culture.
        It is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland,Northern Ireland,Newfoundland and Labrador and in Montserrat. It is also widely celebrated by the Irish diaspora, especially in places such as Great Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, and Montserrat, among others.
        听了Alison的介绍，虎虎才知道原来每年的3月17日就是一年一度的圣帕特里克节呀。而且它是以一个叫圣帕特里克的传教士命名的。原先它只是一个天主教的节日，现在它已经成了爱尔兰独有的文化。而且现在的英国，加拿大，美国，澳大利亚，新西兰和蒙特撒拉特岛也都加入了欢庆节日的队伍中。哇。果然，文化的传递性是很强大的啊……虎虎佩服佩服！
        Who is Saint Patrick?
        There are many versions written about him to provide evidence and details of his life! One of the most widely spread is this:
        When he was about 16, he was captured from Britain by Irish raiders (people who attack and take money/food/supplies) and taken as a slave to Ireland, where he lived for six years before escaping and returning to his family. He wrote that he heard a voice in the night, telling him when to flee and in which direction he was to run to find the ship. When he returned to England, he joined and started to study in the church. Then he returned to Ireland as a bishop, after another saint, St. Germain, recommended him to the Pope. The Pope then gave his support to Patrick to bring Christianity to Ireland. By the seventh century, he had come to be revered as the patron saint of Ireland. The native Irish practiced a religion called Druidism and the language spoken is called Celtic.

        虎虎发现圣帕特里克的人生真是充满了神秘色彩。他原本是只是一个住在大不列颠岛的孩子，在他十六岁那年被丹麦海盗给掳走了，然后被当成奴隶卖到爱尔兰，在被囚禁的六年之中，他每天不断向天主祈祷，希望有一天能够回到自己家乡的土地上。 就在一天晚上，有一个声音传入他的耳中，告诉他快逃离牧羊的农庄，在距离农庄约二百英哩远的岸边有艘船正在等着他，于是他便划着船逃离了爱尔兰，在今日法国的地方登陆。到了后来圣者帕特里克又回到爱尔兰宣扬宗教。圣帕特里克后来都留在爱尔兰，把宗教的光芒带到岛上的每个角落，建立教堂和学校教育人民，在爱尔兰有许多教堂和学校都以他命名。哇！要是有学校能用虎虎的名字命名改多好哦！因此爱尔兰人为了纪念这个守护着他们的圣者，就以他去世的日子三月十七日，订为爱尔兰最重要的节日之一"圣帕特里克节" 。

        What is Shamrock?

        The shamrock is a symbol of Ireland. It is a three-leafed old white clover. The name shamrock is derived from Irish seamróg(爱尔兰语的三叶草), which is the diminutive version of the Irish word for clover (seamair).seamróg是爱尔兰语中seamair "clover，苜蓿"的指小词。
        It is sometimes of the variety Trifolium repens (white clover) but today usually Trifolium dubium (lesser clover). However, other three-leafed plants—such as Medicago lupulina, Trifolium pratense, and Oxalis—are sometimes designated as shamrocks. The shamrock was traditionally used for its medical properties and was a popular motif in Victorian times.
        听说，如果谁找到了有四瓣叶片的三叶草，谁就会得到幸福。所以在欧洲一些国家，在路边看到三叶草的人们，几乎都会把它收好，压平，以便来日赠送他人，以此来表达他们对友人的美好祝愿。在爱尔兰，每年的3月17日的圣帕特里克节上，每个人都要戴上一个三叶草花球。据说，圣帕特里克曾以一片三叶草向崇尚自由的爱尔兰人讲解三位一体。但是现在的人们已经很难确定，当初圣巴特里克用作比喻的究竟是三叶草还是黄花的天蓝草了。不过，三叶草却是典型的为基督教所继承的一种象征。而三叶草那蓬勃的长势也使它成为生命力的象征。
        Why do people wear green clothes on Saint Patrick's Day?

        We are not sure why they wear in green on that day because at the beginning they didn't wear in green on that time,they wear in blue. But after the coming of St Patrick they began to wear in green. I think maybe it's all because of the shamrock. And Ireland is covered with large amount of forests. So color "green" really meant a lot for them.
        虎虎原来不知道，绿色对爱尔兰来说居然是这么的重要。绿色是爱尔兰的象征，也是爱尔兰的国色，爱尔兰被大片的森林覆盖，为了纪念祖先人们都会穿上绿色。而为什么他们会如此钟爱绿色，Alison说也许这就和圣帕特里克节有很大的关系了。可能就是因为当传说当时生帕特里克刚刚来到爱尔兰传教时受到了许多异教徒的排斥，他们甚至想要用石头将它砸死，可是据说，圣帕特里克则扎下一片三叶草向崇尚自由的爱尔兰人讲解三位一体，让爱尔兰人所折服。因此，三叶草便开始成为了爱尔兰人心目中不可替代的花草。
        How do people celebrate this day?

        Generally,they hold street parades. They wear green clothes. And if they don't do that,they will be hit. In the late 18th century, a large number of people in the world poured into America. There are also a lot of Irish people. So they also celebrated the St Patrick's Day to memorize Saint Patrick and the Irish predecessors. And they also have something they call "float." Many people are standing on it when it is heading forward and there will be someone distribute candies or some other gifts to people.On that day,people drink a lot. They drink "green tea"——some kind of tea made in green ingredient. Even the people in churches are also drunk. In Chicago,people even turn the whole river in green just for that day.
        哇！哇！哇！虎虎真是长见识啦。原来是这样啊。Alison说因为18世纪以后许多爱尔兰人都移民到了美国，于是就把这个节日带来了。她说在那天，一定要穿绿色的衣服哦，否则你就会“被扁”。她说她就被扁过，哈哈。她还跟虎虎讲，在那天，大街上会出现被称之为“float”的车，虎虎觉得应该就是我们所说的“花车”吧。车上会有人派发糖果以及其他的小礼物给行人。哇！好开心哇！还有糖果吃。Alison还告诉我那天，大多数的人都会喝酒，而且是喝很多很多的酒，连教堂的人也会喝酒，而且都是喝green beer。唉，可惜虎虎不会喝酒，不然也能和他们碰上两杯……Alison说她的家在靠近Chicago，那边甚至会把一条河染成绿色，( ⊙o⊙ )哇!那岂不是太壮观了！可是虎虎想说，把它变绿容易，可是你要怎么把它变回来呀！？
