Hours after Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion proclaims the new state of Israel on May 14th, 1948, armies from five Arab nations attacked. Still, thousands flood to Jewish Promised Land. In 1956, war erupted again. In 1961, Adolph Eichman was hanged in Israel for his part in the murder of six million Jews in World War II. In 1967, the third Arab - Israeli war sees Israel broadening its borders by annexing the old part of Jerusalem from the Arabs. The U.N. resolution demanded that Israel return the captured territories. But diplomatic efforts accomplish little until 1979. Then under the Camp David Agreement, Israel returned those territories while making peace with Egypt. But peace for the Palestinians remained remote.
