本期的美剧小课堂，杏子老师会带领大家一起从美剧Mom（《极品老妈》）中学习几个地道的习语表达。Are you ready?
先让我们简单了解一下这部剧吧。这是由美国哥伦比亚广播公司（CBS）制播之情境喜剧（Sit-com)，于2013年9月23日在美国首播，获得第66届黄金时段艾美奖。Chuck Lorre是该剧的制片人，也是编剧之一。 或许你不知道Chuck Lorre是谁， 但是你一定知道《生活大爆炸》（The Big Bang Theory）， 或许你还知道《好汉两个半》（Two and a Half Man）。在这两部经典的情境喜剧中，Chuck Lorre都是重要的编剧和制片人， 而《极品老妈》中的人物对话也沿袭了爆笑的风格， 或者说是有过之而无不及的。
故事围绕克丽丝蒂·普伦基特（Christy Plunkett）展开，她是一个生活在美国纳帕（Napa Valley）的年轻单身妈妈，在一家餐厅当服务员。在一次戒酒互助会（Alcholic Anonymous）上，克丽丝蒂遇到了她久未联系的妈妈——邦妮·普伦基特(Bonnie Plunkett)。邦妮在年轻时生下克丽丝蒂，也是一名单身母亲。这对年轻的母女对彼此有着很大的成见。而克丽丝蒂17岁的女儿维奥莱特(Violet）也总是对她很不满，女儿的男友卢克(Luke)，再加上克丽丝蒂和前夫所生的呆萌小儿子罗斯科(Roscoe)…这一切都让克丽丝蒂忙个不停。 我们今天要讲的2个习惯用语来自第一季第三集（Season 1 Episode3)。

W: Hola, Christy.
A penny for your thoughts
作为一个习语，曾经它的确是指一个人愿意花一便士倾听另一个人到底有什么心事。而且当时a penny还是比较值钱的，但是随着时间的流逝，这里的钱已经变成象征意义的了，用来向别人提议，希望倾听对方的心事；或者作为一种礼貌的方式，让在沉思或者看起来处于困境中的人，能够打开心扉，说出自己的想法。
让我们来举2个例子：
1. "You've been staring blankly out of the window for several minutes. A penny for your thoughts."
你已经目光空洞地盯着窗外好几分钟了。跟我说说你在想什么吧。
2. Seeing a thoughtful look on his face, I wondered if he was beginning to just how much unnecessary work he created for me. Maybe he would offer to help.
"A penny for your thoughts, " I said.
看到他若有所思的样子，我猜他可能开始意识到自己给我带来了多少不必要的工作了。 或许他会提出帮助。"跟我说说吧。"我说道。
关于这个习语，还有一个类似的表达，叫：my two cents /put my two cents [AmE]。 这个短语来自英式英语中的"my two pennies worth" or "my tuppence worth." 用来表达这是某人的观点。
比如：
"His dad really shouldn't be that strict, you know. He should be much less aggressive... Well, that's my two cents."
"他爸爸真不应该那么严格。他应该温和一点。当然，这只是我的观点。
work one's ass off
这是一个非常口语的表达，在正式场合最好避免使用。 在这里就是指：work very hard。
我们来看2个例子：
1. Most passions start as interests. So "finding your passion" is better stated: "find an interest & then work your ass off at it." 大多数热情都是从兴趣开始的。 所以"找到你的热情所在"这句话最好这样说："找到你的兴趣，然后为之努力。"
2. If I can make money doing what I love then so can you doing what you love. Just prepare to work your ass off. 如果我能通过做我所热爱的事情赚到钱，你也一样可以。只要准备好为之努力奋斗。
当然对话中的 " get a lot on my mind"（有很多烦心事），以及用 freaking来表示强调都是一些很好的用法（如：It's freaking cold/hot today. 今天冻死/热死了）.希望大家平时在看美剧的时候，除了享受剧情之外，也能学会积累地道有用的表达。
