Many ships were stranded because of the thick fog. 很多船因为大雾而搁浅了。
1.strand：v.使搁浅；使陷入困境
例如：He was stranded penniless in a strange city.（他身无分文地流落在一个陌生的城市里，一筹莫展。）
2.because of：因为，由于（后接名词性词组）
例如：Because of bad weather the trains were not running to time.（因为气候恶劣，火车未能准点到达。）

1.owl：n.猫头鹰，常指代“喜欢夜间活动的人”“神情严肃的人”或“看起来聪明实则很笨的人”。
例如：Don't be such a silly owl!（别摆出那副一本正经的鬼样子！）

1.a bit：多少；有点儿；相当
例如：It's a bit too late.（太晚了。）
2.off the map：直译为“不在地图上”，意即“偏远而难以找到的”或“不存在的”、“不重要的”。
例如：Your factory is off the map in the city.（你们的工厂在这个城市里还数不上。）

P.S. 与something相对，nothing除了表示“没有东西”之外，还可表示“微不足道的人或事物”。
例如：They are nameless nothings.（他们都是无名之辈。）
2.really：adv.真正地；实在，确实（用以加强语气）
例如：I really think I've had enough for the day.（我今天实在是受够了。）

1.mood：n.心境；心情
例如：At midday, my mood began to change.（中午时分，我的情绪开始变化。）
