My teacher gave me plenty of advice on how I could improve my grade before the end of the semester. Now the ball is in my court. I have to decide whether I'm going to make the effort to get more serious about studying.
I know I was wrong. I shouldn't have told my girlfriend that she was selfish. But after leaving her messages and sending her e-mails to apologize, there's nothing else I can do. At this point, the ball is in her court. She has to take the next step and let me know if she forgives me.今天我们要讲的美国习惯用语是：the ball is in someone's court. Ball是球，court是比赛场地。The ball is in someone's court，从字面上来理解就是：球在别人的场地内。作为一个习惯用语，它的意思是：现在是轮到某人采取行动了。
举例来说，我的一个朋友最近找到了一份工作，可是他觉得公司给他的薪水不够高，要求公司提高工资。也就是说，他是否接受这份工作要看公司是否会满足他的条件：The ball is in the company's court.
我们再来举一个例子。有个学生的学习成绩不太好，老师给了他很多帮助，因此是否要努力提高学业成绩还得由他自己来决定。让我们来听听这个学生是怎么说的。
