Russia has handed over an aircraft carrier to the Indian navy after years of delay. The INS Vikramaditya was presented on Saturday at a ceremony attended by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin and Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony.
The ship is expected to replace India’s INS Viraat, which is reaching the end of its service. But reports say the reconstruction of the carrier, valuing about 2.3 billion U.S. dollars, has been repeatedly hampered by various technical problems. The aircraft carrier will be out patrolling the Indian Ocean by next February.
