This is the place where The Night Watch was kept, turned around a cylinder and put into a wooden box.
This was the final wartime bolt hole for Banning Cocq's men guarded by the inheritors of their tradition, the Dutch Military Police.
When peace came, The Night Watch began its long journey home, by canal barge. Because of obstructions in the Dutch waterways, a detour was made into Belgium the only time The Night Watch has ever left its native Holland.
