《基督复活》作为世界上最伟大的艺术品之一，他的命运却是多桀的，这幅壁画曾被不欣赏他的人粉刷掉，后被人修复后才得以重见人世。后在二战时，盟军曾轰炸其所在的圣塞波克罗市，但幸运的是当时盟军的指挥官记起他所读过的一本书中提到在此市中有世界上最伟大的艺术品，便立即命令停止轰炸，《基督复活》又逃过一劫。这或许是天意――基督，总会复活。

I think one of the reasons why Piero fell so quickly from fashion is that there's a kind of stillness and a quietness about him, he doesn't bully you. he doesn't kind of seduce you with special effects. And the next generation, the Raphaels, the Michelangelos, the Leonardos, they were the ones who were much more animated and excitable in the images that they'd made and they made Piero look rather too quiet, almost stolid.
It was that very quality of stillness, where nothing much seems to be happening, that led to the rapid decline in admiration for paintings like The Resurrection. Piero's masterpiece was seen as a work of no value and little interest. And in the 18th century its fortunes went into free-fall - the fresco was wiped out.
