《基督复活》作为世界上最伟大的艺术品之一，他的命运却是多桀的，这幅壁画曾被不欣赏他的人粉刷掉，后被人修复后才得以重见人世。后在二战时，盟军曾轰炸其所在的圣塞波克罗市，但幸运的是当时盟军的指挥官记起他所读过的一本书中提到在此市中有世界上最伟大的艺术品，便立即命令停止轰炸，《基督复活》又逃过一劫。这或许是天意――基督，总会复活。

In creating these eyes, Piero may well have recalled another treasure in the cathedral in Sansepolcro. It's a huge painted, wooden crucifixion, made in the 9th century, called the "Holy Face". The Christ figure here has the same deep, penetrating eyes that can be seen in The Resurrection. But in painting his eyes of Christ, Piero, a man of his time, has added the fine detail of new observation.
When you look at Christ's eyes the first thing that you see is that the lids are quite droopy, overlaying the pupils and that they're slightly uneven, there is more white below this eye than its opposite. But then you realise also that there is a kind of ghost form up above the brows that are mere outlines, through which you can see his skin and yet they seem to stand away from the face adding yet another layer before the face, calling you into the depth of his glance and making it impossible for you to look away.
