The 8th National Theatrical Festival for Disabled People recently wrapped up in the city of Changsha, performers came from far and wide to share their performances, so let’s give it up for these impressive individuals.
A fantastic performance based on a traditional game played by the Miao ethnic group. The radiant smiles of these children and the fast paced switch of formations has the audience thoroughly entertained.
The children are deaf, so an instructor is on hand to signal the beats to the performers.
Chen Lu, instructor, said, "The entire performance is very fast. This is a great challenge for these children. Some moves took weeks to learn."
The youngest of these girls is only 7. And with practises often running for 7 or 8 hours at a time, the experience has been gruelling.
Bin Jie, performer, said, "I trained so hard on the stool that I scraped a patch of skin off, so I preferred to stand when I wasn’t training."
The children were rewarded for their hard work as their show won first prize in the dance genre of the festival.
Another highlight of the event is an ethnic dance from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. All the performers here are from ethnic minority groups. Their dance "The Morning Rose" is loaded with enthusiasm and their love for dancing is clear.
The dance is a celebration of life, the teacher taught us to express this using our bodies. We want this buoyant spirit to shine through.
And people are certainly inspired and reminded of how much there is to celebrate despite the adversities we might face, thanks to these passionate performers that are passing on this positive attitude. |
