But first, China's northwest Gansu Province is still reeling from the effects of two powerful earthquakes that struck the region earlier this week. More than 100 people were killed, and 800 injured. It's a stark reminder of the deadly power of China's earthquakes. In 2008, up to 90,000 people were killed in Sichuan Province. Amongst those affected was Liao Zhi, a 28-year-old dancer who lost her baby daughter and mother-in-law when their building collapsed. She also had to have both her legs amputated after spending over 20 hours trapped in the rubble. But now she is dancing again on artificial legs. And when another earthquake hit the same region in April this year, Liao Zhi joined the relief effort. In China, she's become known as the most beautiful volunteer. When I spoke to her through a translator, she told me about the terrible events which followed the 2008 earthquake.
When it stopped, my mother-in-law was holding my daughter, and three of us were almost sitting on the floor, holding each other together. All of the ceilings fell down, and there is a space between the ceiling and the floor. So I was trapped in that triangle.
