Leonardo
全文听写,英式拼法
This was to be its triumph and its tragedy, as its story now becomes a curiously mix, unstoppable growth and equally unstoppable decay.
Leonardo's painting was copied to an extraordinary degree from very, very early on. And in a way, I think it was seen as a sort of a miraculous image. Leonardo is similarly being seen as inspired by God, and so his own picture becomes that kind of miracle, that kind that needs to be promulgated, that can be copied and revered in a whole range of different places.
Copies abounded, and they in their turn were copied. And so The Last Supper began to spread its web around the world. But the painting held a dark secret, deep within, it contained the seeds of its own destruction. |
