"The International Monetary Fund keeps on demanding that we tighten our belts and they've even threatened us by saying that if Argentina doesn't do certain things they will hold up a red card to us. Well, that was back in September. Now with protest strikes by hundreds of thousands of Argentine workers, bringing much of the country to a standstill, Cristina Kirchner's been on the attack again. Today is the deadline for Argentina to come up with some new figures for the IMF. But instead President Kirchner told a rally of her supporters, "I'll put up with whatever I have to put up with. No one will bully me, not with threats, not with violence." So it's feisty firebrand stuff, especially over a bunch of dry figures. But the fact is the gap between Argentina's official inflation figures and what everybody else, including the IMF, seems to think the figure should be, is huge. 10%, says the government.
