Some have marched in support of the new President, Mohammed Morsi, while others oppose his recent move to take new powers. There are clear echoes of the demonstrations which toppled former President Hosni Mubarak last year. One of the most potent images of those times was the footage of a red-hooded woman being beaten by soldiers as she tried to come to the aid of another protester. It was shown around the world. That woman was Azza Hilal Suleiman. The army have admitted their soldiers were involved in the incident but say their response was proportionate to the circumstances. Well, now Azza is back on the streets, protesting again. From Cairo, she told me why she joined the anti-Mubarak demonstrations in the first place.
I will tell you my age. I'm 50. But Mubarak's story started with me when I was just 18. Coz my family is in the army, we were always talking in the house about Mubarak and I learnt a lot and they didn't like it. Everybody didn't like it, but everybody just kept talking until I found those beautiful youths taking down to the streets and I decided to join them. And you know, it was the best part of my life so far.
You said that you come from a military family. Did your views about the military change once you had joined those protests?
We can divide the army in two: the military council and those soldiers and officers who accepted the orders - the orders to attack the protesters and to hit them. And that part I refuse.
