With his flair for self publicity, Hitchcock was by now a familiar, if rather, unconventional part of the Hollywood landscape. On the home front, however, life for the Hitchcocks was, according to Alma, anything but unconventional.
Our house is in Beverly Hills, no swimming pool. He said that would be too obvious. We have a very average home life, I should say. Most days, even non-working days, we go to bed early around 9:30, and we wake early. Hitch wakes about 6:30, as myself arise at 7. Pat was the same around. When he gets home at night we have dinner, sitting in our breakfast nook and read for a while before you know it's 9:30 and time for bed again.
He was curiously a home buddy, who enjoyed his work - that was his life and his wife, and he was mad about Pat. |
