Premier Wen Jiabao answered questions relating to China's current economic situation and economic policy initiatives for 2010, among other topics.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said, "As the Premier, I should be clear about the true situation to the people. It is my obligation. Meanwhile, I should bring them confidence and hope."
Premier Wen Jiabao said that thanks to the efforts made by all the people, China has stabilized its economic growth and employment, and maintained social stability.
But he warned that the economy in its present form remained unbalanced, uncoordinated and unsustainable. He noted that science and technology were key to China's economic development. He said China needs to step up its efforts to develop high-tech industries and resolve the structural problem of the economy.
Premier Wen said that in the coming year, the government will maintain the stability and continuity of its macro-economic policies while staying alert for signs of inflation.
He said the ultimate goal of the nation's economic growth is to improve people's well-being.
Premier Wen said that despite the difficult fiscal situation, China has improved the income and welfare enjoyed by pensioners and low-income residents, and unveiled significant health-care reforms in 2008.
The Premier also promised action against soaring home prices. He said the government will maintain order in the property market using economic levers, while cracking down on illegal activities. The government will also increase the supply of smaller, medium and low-priced homes.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said, "In the new year, we should continue to remain aware of possible hardships and crises. We should work harder. China has a great deal of hope in its future."
During the interview, the Premier also answered questions relating to private investment, overcapacity, and climate issues. |
