口语节目地址:http://bulo.hujiang.com/menu/2120/item/693106/With a budget deficit of $1 trillion and counting, you might think what America needs at the moment is a strong dose of austerity, a la Europe. But the prospect of new measures to boost government revenue and rein in spending is causing no end of alarm. Talk now, especially on Wall Street, is about the perils of America's so-called fiscal cliff as economic impact of a range of tax increases and state spending cuts due to take effect on January 1st.
Some say the impacts on American households and businesses could be enough to push the US back into recession. That's why it's been another torrid day for shares on Wall Street after Wednesday's sharp falls, which was the biggest for a year, as I heard from Joseph Saluzzi at Themis Trading in New Jersey.
For the US-wise, it concerns me when it comes to the tax policy. Now that the election is over and the issue now becomes what happens to rates on capital gains and dividends and signals are that everything is going up. People are nervous but there's obviously then in addition to that, there's, you know, European growth concern.
Yesterday's news is about Germany falling in their problems as well. And then today they were talking about the Greek financial aid may be being delayed for another week or two. So those issues haven't gone away but the new issues now are, OK, the fiscal cliff is getting closer and now we have these tax problems. So what do we do?
