The US campaign group Human Rights Watch has produced satellite evidence that an entire neighbourhood in Rakhine State in the west of the country has been destroyed after days of unrest earlier this week between Muslim Rohingyas and non-Muslims. Ethnic Rakhine Buddhists claim they've also been victims of the violence which, according to the Burmese authorities, has claimed at least 64 lives. The Burmese authorities have in the past few hours acknowledged the violence. In response, Zaw Htay, who's a spokesman for the Burmese President Thein Sein, told the BBC's Burmese Service the government is stepping up security.
"There've been some incidents of whole villages and parts of towns being burnt down in Rakhine State while we could not provide full security in some areas. That's why the government is strengthening security.
